Scoliosis is a condition that affects the twisting and bending of the spine. It can cause a visible rib hump or lumbar bulge and a lack of mobility in the spine and ribs, leading to pain and incorrect loading. While 80% of scoliosis cases are congenital and their cause is unknown, only 20% are caused by muscle or nerve diseases. The first signs of scoliosis can already be detected in childhood, with girls being affected more often than boys.
Without proper treatment, scoliosis can have a significant impact on the entire organism. The longer it remains untreated, the greater its effects on the body. Depending on the severity, not only can the individual vertebral bodies change in their bone structure and shape, but the changed position of the ribs can also impair breathing and cardiac output, leading to reduced performance. In severe cases, it can even lead to impairments of other internal organs due to their narrowing.
At Gondelsheim Scoliosis Center, team understands the importance of early detection and treatment of scoliosis. Without treatment, the deformities will inevitably worsen, and the clinical picture can worsen by 1 degree per year, depending on the findings. That is why clinic offers effective and recognized treatment options to help correct spinal deformities and improve quality of life.
